Bangkok, July 17, 2024 – The Tourist Police Bureau extends its deepest condolences to the families of the two American and four Vietnamese nationals who tragically passed away in a hotel room in Bangkok on July 16, 2024.
From the investigation, preliminary findings indicate that the deaths of all six individuals were caused by poisoning, as cyanide was found in the glasses and water bottles in the hotel room. The perpetrator is believed to be one of the deceased, who was reportedly having financial disputes with the other victims.
Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin expressed his condolences to the families of the deceased. He has discussed the matter with the Vietnamese Ambassador to Thailand to coordinate support for the victims' families and has emphasized that this incident does not impact the overall safety of tourism in Thailand.
Tourist Police Commissioner, Pol.Lt.Gen.Saksira Pheuak-um, also stated that the Tourist Police are working with other relevant agencies to investigate the incident and coordinating with the embassies to establish support and facilitation for the embassies’ officials and the families of the deceased as requested. The Tourist Police are committed to collaborating fully with all parties to ensure a thorough investigation and appropriate assistance.
